This is my 1st time I’m writing a blog so please spare me the poorly written English, so anyways I’ve decided to write a movie review on a film I just saw recently saw, Detroit Rock City.
Set in the year 1978 Cleveland, it tells the story of 4 teenagers Trip, Lex, Hawk and Jam who finally manage to get tickets to the KISS concert but as luck wouldn’t go their way Jam’s chain smoking ultra conservative mother (who apparently thinks it stands for KISS stands for Knights in Satan’s service) after humiliating him in school burns the tickets and decides to transfer him to a catholic boarding school.Meanwhile the other 3 manage to enter a radio contest and win four back stage passes, they plan to ditch school and bust Jam out of the catholic school. Once there they add psychedelic mushrooms to the priest’s pizza, who gets so high that he thinks that Satan and Santa are the same and of course Jam manages to get away.
While driving down to Detroit, Trip throws a slice of Pizza on a car with a group of Disco lovers who after a car chase wipes Hawks face against the windshield. However after he destroys one of their Kiss tapes they seem to have gone too far and Hawk kicks him in the groin and knocks him out.
They then turn their attention on the other guy who after futile negotiations meets the same fate. They then proceed to free roll his car down the ditch and paint their faces to resemble the Members of Kiss.They then pick up Christine who had had walked away from the earlier fight. After a lot of weed and arguing they manage to reach Detroit with 2 hours to Detroit. They then leave Christine in the car, she had passed out earlier due to the dope.
When they arrive at the station to collect the tickets they find out that Trip did not stay on the lines long enough for the radio station to give him information and were forced to give the tickets to the next caller.
To add to their misery Lex notices that the car is stolen who suspects it was Christine. With time running out each of them go their separate ways in order to find KISS tickets and decide to meet up exactly in an hour.
Lex tries to sneak into the concert with a bunch of roadies trying to setup the show, after a long chase he is caught and thrown out. He then finds his car in a junkyard along with Christine tied up by a bunch of goons.With a group of vicious dogs, which he befriended after playing, a game of Frisbee he rescues Christine and the car.
Meanwhile Jam on the look out for KISS tickets is spotted by her mother who is heading a rally protesting the evil i.e. KISS. Horrified she takes him to a local church telling him to confess to the local priest that he has sinned.
When Jam tries to make a confession, the priest shuns him asking him come up with a juicier story. Beth a classmate of Jam spots him in the church and follows him, confessing to him that she always had a crush on him but never had the courage to tell him and now she's moving away, Jam feels the same and they make love in the confession booth.
At the same time, somewhere else Trip plans to mug a kid to get his KISS tickets but it back fires when he calls his big brother who threatens to beat him up if he can't come up with 200$. Terrified Trip plans to mug a gas station but ironically as he is about to execute his plan another mugger who holds a shotgun beats him to it. Trip holds an action figure, which he shows it off as a gun. The two wrestle over the gun and Trip is able to knock him over. Impressed the store clerk plants a kiss on him asking who he is? He replies, "They call me doctor" (an obvious reference to the song by KISS).Trip trying to repay his muggers so that he doesn't get beaten gets beaten anyways and has his wallet taken too.
Hawk needs to come up with 100$ to buy the tickets in black and decides to go to a strip club, who are giving away 100$ to the winner. He strips off to the tune of strutter (By KISS) and fails miserably. But manages to get the money from a patron who pays him for the sex. Unfortunately the tickets are sold by the time he arrives.
The four friends meet at the junction with 15 minutes left for the concert, they decide the only way to get in is to beat the crap out of each other and tell the doorman that they were mugged and their tickets stolen then they would have to be let in.
When they arrive all beat up and bruised the doorman doesn't believe them however Trip recognizes the kid who had mugged him earlier and tells on him. The security guard frisks him to find Trips KISS Badge. The doorman kicks the kid along with his brothers out and hands over the tickets to them.Elated! That they finally had the tickets in there hands they all frantically rush in.
In the concert, Gene Simmons blows fire and spits blood, Paul Stanley sings his heart out and smashes his guitar, Ace Frehley's guitar smokes and Peter Criss throws his drumstick into the crowd, when Jam, jumping up, catches it, making up for the one that his mother broke. The song KISS plays is the title song of the movie, "Detroit Rock City."
